An Open Letter To My Daughter

Dear Daughter,

Maybe one day you will be a mother too and know the love I feel - maybe you already do. Do you recognize the depth of my fear when I think about something happening to you, the anger that rages when I see the world we built for you? You are young, a shining light so bright, full of joy, brimming with realness, abundant with truth. You see the world as an opportunity for learning and it is - the world is all for you. You are lucky, you haven't yet been fed the lies, been shaped by society, warped by the ways of the humanity around you. You see the world in all it's beauty and in a way I envy you. You are all you and in your truth you have taught me so much. You teach me how to love and how to love myself. You teach me how to see the good in things, how to be curious, how to take every moment as it comes and let go of control. You teach me that I am full, full of feeling, full of creative magic, full of life, full of the vibrant force of light.

I pray that you will somehow be immune to this world we live in, that you wont look in the mirror and think something isn't good enough or that you are not worth enough. I pray you wont live in a universe where you are taught how to be perfect or think you should be. I pray you won't ever shut off your thoughts or hide your feelings or think being pretty is more important than having a voice. I hope you will have the confidence to make mistakes and to learn from them. I pray no man will ever prey on you, make you feel like you don't belong in your body or need to belong in it differently. I pray you will stay humble, feel fluidly and fully know the sensation of the sand in your toes and the wind in your hair. Will you prefer flowers to tv? Will you sing and chant with me?

I imagine that you wont be affected by advertising - but i know you will. I know you will want to be cool, popular, smart and although I hope I can somehow stop these wants, switch of the game and just allow presence, I know I probably wont and thats ok too. I hope that you will listen to me, but in the end forge your own path, experiment with being, your own way of thinking. I hope that I know nothing and your future will be just as new to me as it is to you.

Your mama and other women are working hard at creating a voice for the female - we are fighting a fight with love. We want your world to be a safe one, a healed one, a shining bright one - A REAL ONE.

I cannot protect you from everything. I probably can't even protect you from myself. I'm sometimes just as bad as the world but here's the thing - nobodies perfect and nor will you be - and nor will you want to be. That's ok - because making the mistakes, feeling the pain - that's how the light gets in.

I have so much more to say but for today

Love and light
